What Is Dysport?

Fast-Acting Wrinkle Reduction That Looks Like You

Dysport (abobotulinumtoxinA) is an FDA-approved injectable that temporarily reduces moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows — and works beautifully across the forehead and around the eyes. Made from botulinum toxin type A, it relaxes the facial muscles that cause wrinkles, creating a smoother, more refreshed appearance without erasing your natural expressions.

What sets Dysport apart is its lighter molecular weight, which allows it to diffuse slightly more than Botox — making it especially effective for larger areas like the full forehead. Patients also notice results faster, often within 2–3 days.

Where Can Dysport Be Injected?

Dysport is FDA-approved for glabellar lines (the "11s" between the brows), and is widely and effectively used off-label across the upper and lower face. Its diffusion profile makes it particularly well-suited for larger, flatter areas like the forehead.

Questions & Answers

Frequently Asked Questions About Dysport

Dysport results typically last 3–4 months. Most patients schedule maintenance treatments every 3–4 months to keep smooth, youthful-looking skin. With consistent treatments over time, some patients find results lasting slightly longer as the muscles become conditioned to relax. If you want longer-lasting results — up to 6–9 months — ask us about Daxxify.

Most patients describe Dysport injections as a quick pinch or slight pressure lasting just seconds. We use very fine needles and the treatment takes only 10–15 minutes total. Ice or topical numbing cream is available for patients with heightened sensitivity, though most find it completely unnecessary. The brief sensation is a small trade-off for months of smooth results.

Neither is universally "better" — they're both excellent products with meaningful differences. Dysport tends to work faster (2–3 days vs. 3–7 days) and diffuses slightly more, making it ideal for larger treatment areas like the forehead. Botox is more precise and localized. If you want the longest duration possible, Daxxify (6–9 months) is worth discussing. The best choice depends on your specific anatomy and goals — we'll walk you through all three at your consultation.

Most patients begin noticing smoother skin within 2–3 days after treatment — one of Dysport's standout advantages. Full results are typically visible within 7–14 days. This makes Dysport popular among patients who want results quickly for an upcoming event or occasion.

For 24 hours after your treatment: don't lie flat for 4 hours, avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area, skip strenuous exercise, and avoid excessive heat (saunas, hot tubs, hot yoga). Limit alcohol and avoid facial treatments or massages for the rest of the day. You can return to most normal activities immediately. We provide comprehensive written aftercare instructions at every appointment.

The number of units varies based on your muscle strength, treatment areas, and desired results. As a general guide: frown lines average 20–30 units, forehead lines 10–20 units, and crow's feet 15–30 units (both sides). Keep in mind that Dysport units are smaller than Botox units, so higher unit numbers are normal and expected — the price per unit is also lower. We'll provide a personalized estimate during your consultation.

No. Like all neuromodulators, Dysport is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. While there is no evidence of harm, adequate safety studies have not been conducted in pregnant or nursing individuals. We recommend waiting until after you have finished breastfeeding before resuming injectable treatments.

Dysport has a smaller molecular size than Botox, which means it diffuses more after injection — a feature, not a flaw. This makes it particularly effective for larger, flatter areas like the forehead, where you want smooth, even relaxation rather than pinpoint precision. It also has one of the fastest onsets of any neuromodulator. Compared to Daxxify, Dysport has a shorter duration (3–4 months vs. 6–9 months) but is often preferred by patients who like to fine-tune their results more frequently.
