Your skin is thoroughly cleansed and a topical numbing cream is applied. You'll relax for 20–30 minutes while it takes full effect.

Days 2–5
Redness resolves, skin settles

Many other devices on the market are not FDA-cleared and vary significantly in quality, sterility standards, and consistency of results. SkinPen uses a single-use, sterile cartridge for every treatment, eliminating cross-contamination risk and ensuring the same precise performance every session.
Many clients notice skin improvement after a single session — particularly in texture, hydration, and glow. For meaningful improvement in acne scars, deeper lines, or significant laxity, a series of 3 to 6 treatments spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart is recommended. Each treatment builds on the last, and results continue improving between sessions as your collagen cycle responds. At your consultation, we'll recommend the series length that makes sense for your specific concerns.
We apply a topical numbing cream for 20 to 30 minutes before every SkinPen treatment, so by the time the device touches your skin, most clients feel only mild pressure or light scratching. Some areas — like around the nose or forehead — may be slightly more sensitive, but the treatment is very well tolerated. The full session typically takes 30 to 45 minutes and most clients are surprised by how comfortable it is.
Expect mild redness for 24 to 48 hours — similar to a moderate sunburn. Most clients return to work the same day. We recommend avoiding makeup for the first 4 to 6 hours, and if PDGF+ was applied, avoiding washing your face for 12 hours. By day two, most clients look and feel normal and can resume their regular skincare routine (with the exception of retinoids and active exfoliants, which we recommend reintroducing around day 5 to 7).
Yes — this is one of SkinPen's most significant advantages. Because the treatment works through mechanical micro-injury rather than heat or light energy, there is no risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). SkinPen is safe and clinically validated for all Fitzpatrick skin types I through VI, making it one of the most inclusive collagen-induction options available for clients with melanin-rich skin who may not be candidates for laser treatments.
