If you’ve been researching wrinkle relaxers in Anchorage, you’ve probably seen both Botox and Dysport mentioned along side each other — and understandably, it can get confusing fast.
They treat the same concerns, last a similar amount of time, and are both FDA-approved.
So what’s actually different?
Let’s break it down in plain English.
What Is Dysport?
Dysport is a neuromodulator — a medication that temporarily relaxes muscle movement that causes expression lines.
When certain facial muscles contract repeatedly (smiling, frowning, squinting in bright Alaska snow), the skin creases. Over time those creases stay even when your face is at rest.
Dysport gently softens the movement so the skin can smooth out.
It treats:
-
Frown lines between the eyebrows (11’s)
-
Forehead lines
-
Crow’s feet
-
Bunny lines
-
Chin dimpling
-
Lip flip
-
Jaw tension / slimming
-
Neck bands
| Feature | Dysport | Botox |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | FDA-approved neuromodulator used to relax wrinkle-causing muscles | FDA-approved neuromodulator used to relax wrinkle-causing muscles |
| Spread | Spreads slightly wider, allowing smoother blending in larger areas | More precise placement with less diffusion |
| Onset of results | Often faster — results may begin in 2–4 days | Typically begins in 4–7 days |
| Look & feel | Softer, more natural movement for many patients | Structured, targeted muscle relaxation |
| Best areas | Forehead, frown lines, crow’s feet, larger muscle groups | Smaller, highly targeted areas |
| Unit comparison | Requires more units (approximately 2.5–3 Dysport units per 1 Botox unit) | Fewer units needed due to different measurement system |
| Longevity | About 3–4 months for most patients | About 3–4 months for most patients |
Why Do Dysport Units and Unit Pricing Look Different Everywhere?
You may notice Dysport numbers look bigger at some locations and pricing is all over the place. That’s normal.
Dysport units are measured differently — but it doesn’t mean they are weaker – it is just a conversion.
Conversion:
In general 1 Botox unit ≈ 2.5–3 Dysport units
So if a forehead normally uses 20 Botox units, it will use about 50–60 Dysport units for the same result.
The end result and longevity are equivalent — only the math is different.
However, this gets confusion therefore we have done the conversion for you. At New Age Medspa our Dysport units are presented in line with Botox (you aren’t receiving less or more, we just eliminated the math portion of the show).
How Long Does Dysport Last?
Most patients in Alaska see results lasting 3–4 months.
Longevity depends on:
-
Metabolism
-
Muscle strength
-
Treatment consistency
-
Activity level
Consistent treatments typically make results last longer over time.
Does Dysport Look More Natural?
This is one of the biggest reasons patients choose it.
Dysport tends to “feather” across the muscle instead of locking a single point, which can create:
-
smoother forehead blending
-
less heaviness
-
expressive but refreshed appearance
You still move — just less wrinkle-forming movement.
When Will I See Results?
-
Day 2–3: movement begins softening
-
Day 5–7: noticeable smoothing
-
Day 10–14: full result
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Dysport safe?
Yes. It is FDA-approved and has been used medically for decades before cosmetic use.
Will I look frozen?
No — treatments are customized to your muscle strength and goals.
Can men get Dysport?
Absolutely. Men often need slightly higher dosing due to stronger muscle mass.
Does it hurt?
Most patients describe it as tiny quick pinches lasting seconds.
What age should you start?
Preventative treatments often begin late 20s–30s, but there’s no “correct” age — only when lines begin resting.
Who Is a Good Candidate?
You may benefit from Dysport if:
-
Makeup settles into expression lines
-
Lines stay visible at rest
-
Your forehead feels heavy or tense
-
You want natural-looking prevention
